A retired federal corrections professional with 29 years of service, Michael Cantrell is an author, trainer, and speaker with more than 29 years of experience working inside America’s prison system. He served in high-security institutions, crisis response operations, and executive leadership roles, retiring as Chief of the Office of Emergency Preparedness for the Federal BOP in Washington, D.C.

He is also the host of The Prison Officer Podcast, where he explores leadership, wellness, and the realities of working behind prison walls.

His new book, The Weight of Justice, draws from his firsthand experiences to tell the untold story of the emotional toll, leadership challenges, and human cost carried by correctional professionals.
