Kush Varia is an independent scholar who studied Media Arts at Royal Holloway before completing a Masters in Cinema and Television Studies at the British Film Institute and Birkbeck College, University of London. During this time he organised an event celebrating alternative sexualities in Bollywood for the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.
During his career he has worked as a researcher for the British Universities Film and Video Council and for BBC Motion Gallery where he produced Visions of India, a series of twelve short films discovering the architecture, artistic traditions, religious life and history of the country.
Kush has been a Visiting Lecturer in Film Studies at the University of Roehampton. During the writing of this book, he was invited to give lectures on his work in progress at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London and, the Royal Society of Asian Affairs.
