Barbara Kingsley Singer

Barbara Kingsley Singer is a native of Leeds, England who relocated to the USA with only the clothes on her back. The airline had lost her suitcase. But optimism is hereditary in her family and she never lost her sense of humor. Breakup Cocktail, 5 Parts Laughter, 1 Part Healing and a Twist of Revenge was initially created as a serious book to help others through various stages of relationship demise, but as it grew, it changed. A sense of humor took it over. Stories of hardship and despair were suddenly transformed into tales of wit and optimism, and the lighter side of life nudged away the gloom from a usually depressing subject.

Using her past experiences and hardships to form this, her first book, the author introduces quirky characters into the tales of Breakup Cocktail, who become the victims of the events that had originally made her struggle. A little poetic license and a slight clouding of the truth stir up a laugh and soften the hardships that are the backbone of this book. Her work has been described as "Erma Bombeck meets Sally Silverman."

Conceived on land but completed on the morning commute, Breakup Cocktail was written on local trains, where a delay was always appreciated as it offered extra writing time. When not commuting, the author prefers to travel further afield to places such as Germany, Singapore, Panama and of course, her native England.

Educated in both England and the United States, she received her paralegal degree in New Jersey. Her published work includes diverse local press items in both countries. A member of the International Women's Writing Guild (IWWG) in New York, she lives in New Jersey with her partner and still remains close with her ex-husband's family. She is currently working on other life tales that are sure to offer the same honest truth and humor that shaped Breakup Cocktail.

Great book for dipping in and out of.

You don't have to invest time getting back into the story, each individual story stands alone. The stories are just the right length for reading one or several at a time.

Some stories such as The Tale of Jake are thought-provoking on the destructive powers of jealousy.

Some light-hearted stories, some quite dark, a good cocktail all around!

Daunted by the thought of reading a whole book? enjoy short stories? where 'short' is definitely the operative word. Read on then as this little gem is a must for you and anyone like you who hates the concept of long drawn out reads.

A word of warning though, it won't take long before you start seeing parts of your own past come to life in the pages of 'Breakup Cocktail'. We've all been there before, sometimes more than once, but with this in mind just sit back and enjoy a really well written book by someone who's either been there too, or has one hell of an imagination.

What a lovely little book. And so amusing full of little anecdotes all relating to the trials and tribulations of relationships. If you have recently experienced a break up or are experiencing problems with you relationship you MUST READ THIS. It gives an insight where you may have gone wrong and what to do NEXT TIME. Sadly its not a quick fix but it is a great buy, nice to dip into rather than as a novel.

This book is a fantastic read, lots of short stories and funny comments on relationships and break-ups. Written in a light hearted, clever way that makes you want to keep reading each story. Great to pick up and put down but also a real page turner. Anyone who has experienced relationships could relate to so many of the stories, you would thoroughly enjoy this book!
