The author of four books - 'Mighty Men of Valor', 'A Damn Big Fight', 'Operation Texas Star' and "Behind the Seven Point Star" - John G. Roberts is a native Californian, growing up in the small Los Angeles County town of Covina. After leaving college he was drafted into the U.S. Army in January, 1969. Trained as a combat infantryman, he was sent to Vietnam and assigned to the Screaming Eagles, the famous 101st Airborne Division. He served in the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment (the "O-Deuce") and saw heavy combat during Operation Texas Star in the spring and summer of 1970. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge. Returning home, he joined the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department which provides law enforcement services for the largest county (over 20,000 square miles) in the lower 48 states. After he suffered a career-ending injury he retired from law enforcement with 22 years service and became a licensed private investigator. Roberts began to write Mighty Men of Valor in 1982 and it took him until 2012 to both gather all the documents needed and find and interview some of the surviving combat veterans he had served with. During this time he, along with thousands of other Vietnam combat veterans, dealt with the ongoing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and its effect on his daily life and career. This is his story, but it's also about his fellow combat veterans who are the true 'Mighty Men of Valor'. During his senior year in high school, Roberts read a book about the so-called 'Custer's Last Stand'. The story piqued his interest and when, later in life, he visited the Little Bighorn Battlefield, he decided to write a book about this epic battle. 'A Damn Big Fight' is the result of many years of research and tells the story from the Indian warriors point of view. His book, 'Operation Texas Star', is the story of the last big offensive battles fought by U.S. Forces in Vietnam. Roberts' latest book "Behind the Seven Point Star" tells the story of his life as a deputy sheriff and detective for the San Bernardino County, California, Sheriff's Department.
