Born in Surrey, Jane Newman spent much of her childhood and adolescence in West Africa, from age 9 months to age 17. She returned, with her Swiss husband, in 1979,to work in the Ivory Coast with SIL Côte d'Ivoire, part of the Wycliffe Global Alliance. Their four children were all born during their fifteen years there.
It was after a first period of depression, from 1984 to 1991, that the desire to write something for other colleagues who struggled similarly with depression emerged.
In 1993, Jane and the family moved back to Europe, and FINALLY, that desire re-emerged and, in 2012, the first edition of "Thank God for antidepressants!" was published. Jane is now retired and in 2017 published a second edition of the book with Create Space.
Jane writes from her insider experience of depression and the challenge of taking long term antidepressants over a period of twenty seven years. She knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of negative attitudes to taking anti-depressants, and cares passionately about those who live with the supposedly «shameful secret » of needing long-term medication. In Switzerland she has regular opportunities to give talks on the subject.
Jane and her Swiss husband now have five grandchildren, and live near Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
