Adriaan S. van Klinken

Adriaan van Klinken is Professor of Religion and African Studies at the University of Leeds (UK), and Extraordinary Professor in the Desmond Tutu Centre for Religion and Social Justice, University of the Western Cape (South Africa).

Originating from the Netherlands he studied at Utrecht University for his MA and PhD in Religious Studies. He was a postdoctoral research fellow at SOAS, University of London, before joining the University of Leeds in 2013.

His research focuses on issues of gender, sexuality and public life in contemporary African Christianity. He has an interest in gender-critical, queer and postcolonial perspectives to religion.
