N. H. Shuman

Hi! Welcome to my bookstore! My full name is Nancy Marie Hammonds Shuman. I am an author and illustrator of storybooks for children. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I first fell in love with books as a little child, so creating my own children's stories completes the circle.

My beloved planted a garden for me: I spend a lot of time there, among the butterflies and honeybees. Painting nature is another passion. Some of my paintings in oils or watercolors can be found in my stories.

I have always been of fragile health -- another reason I admire the tiny creatures of the garden. Their amazing gifts, like metamorphosis, migration from Maine to Mexico over several generations -- even the bee's communication by dancing -- are symbols of strategic survival, new life, and life after life, so inspiring.

We all face challenges in life, even when we are very young. My books can help someone you love look forward to unexpected answers to difficult seasons of life: like, out of nowhere, growing wings to fly!
