Jan Witkowski

Jan Witkowski is an expatriate Brit who came to the USA in 1986 and has been here ever since. Originally a researcher on human genetic disorders, he moved to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in 1987 where he is Executive Director of the Banbury Center. This is a small conference center for meetings of up to 36 scientists who come to discuss topics across the spectrum of biomedical research. He is also interested in the history of modern experimental biology. Witkowski has published many scientific papers and on the history of science. He is Editor-in-Chief of "Trends in Biochemical Sciences".

He is a co-author of the 2nd and 3d editions of one of Jim Watson's textbooks - "Recombinant DNA" - and has edited several other books. Most recently, he and his colleague Alex Gann produced a new edition of Watson's classic "The Double Helix", adding over 250 annotations and a similar number of illustrations to create "The Annotated and Illustrated Double Helix".
