Bernadette Howlett, PhD (Dr. B.), was born in Pozzuoli, Italy. Her father served in the United States Navy and her mother is from Ireland. She has four siblings, three of whom live in the U.S. and one in the U.K., as well as four step-siblings who reside in the U.S. Dr. B. lives in Pocatello, Idaho with her husband and two sons.
Working for Bingham Memorial Hospital, Dr. B. is currently the Director of the Aegis Research Institute (http://www.binghammemorial.org/Research.html). She is an accomplished researcher, author, and health professional educator with over 20 years experience in higher education. Dr. B. received her Bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Marylhurst University and worked in online education for nine years. She received her Master's degree in Human Performance Improvement from Boise State University and was hired as an Assistant Professor at Idaho State University. She earned her PhD in Adult Learning and Organizational Development from University of Idaho. She is a recipient of the John LV Bobell Award for Outstanding Dedication and Devotion to the Field of Adult Learning from the American Society of Training and Development. In 2008 she was nominated as the ISU Distinguished Researcher. She was also recognized as a Scholar by the Institute of Translational Health Sciences in 2011.
While pursuing her Master's and Doctoral degrees, Dr. B. worked as an instructional designer, teaching health professional faculty members, among others, how to design and deliver effective online instruction. In 2004 she began teaching an evidence-based medicine course for the physician assistant program. She was a faculty member with physician assistant studies for eight years. Dr. B. attained tenure and was promoted to Associate Professor. In 2011 she accepted the position of Research Director with Bingham Memorial Hospital and transitioned to an Affiliate Faculty member position with the Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University. Dr. B. administers the clinical research program for the hospital, writing grants, and collaborating with Idaho State University on numerous research projects.
