History and its impact on civilizations is my favorite subject for reading, whether scholarly works or well researched historical novels. My favorite authors have inspired me to try to discover how they manage to write so well without their masterful technique shouting in the forefront to be noticed before the narrative. Included in my very large must-read list is David McCullough, Amy Tan, Willa Cather, Jane Austin, Taylor Caldwell, Katharine Scherman, Stephen E. Ambrose, Hugh Nibley, C. S. Lewis, Ulysses S. Grant, and Paul Robert Magocsi.
