Ric Thompson

Ric Thompson was born in Belfast in 1946, educated in Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland and in England. He can't remember a time when he wasn't writing, and wasn't being pursued by a queue of frustrated boys waiting for the next chapter.

However, youthful ambition was squashed by a publisher who declared that 'there was not enough sex and violence for their readership' and as he wasn't prepared to pander to the market, and was advised by his uncle that writing was a very lonely business, he gave it up for years and concentrated on getting a job, more qualifications, more jobs, in the Northern Ireland linen industry, in the rag-trade in Northern Ireland and Portugal, until one day he decided to give up the rat race of employment, became self-employed and had several years of assorted jobs, from debt collection, through mini-cabbing, to landscape gardening, grounds and building maintenance.

Having more time to write he started writing a series of crime novels - without the sex and violence - centering on the fictional town of Rochfield in Yorkshire. All because he kept reading crime novels his wife had borrowed from the local library and saying - 'I could have written that', to the point where she said 'Then, go away and do it.'

So far there are nine completed novels in the series and another in production, all are available on Kindle and CreateSpace. His first thriller - Target North has just gone live on Kindle and CreateSpace

He is married with three grown up children, a dog, a cat and his daughter's very old goldfish, and still lives in Northern Ireland.

He attends the Methodist Church and has written pantomimes and hymns for his local circuit.
