Jenny Setchell

Jenny Setchell was born in New Zealand, received her secondary schooling at Nga Tawa, completed a BA at the University of Otago, and has almost completed a Mus B at the University of Canterbury, majoring in organ performance. Although she has played organs in churches of various denominations for more than 40 years, her principal career was as a journalist for most of her working life. In 2005 Jenny left her job as a senior sub-editor at The Press, one of New Zealand’s main metropolitan daily newspapers, to pursue her freelance activities. These include website design and maintenance, photography and writing. She has produced 3 books - all of them about pipe organs, and two published by the famous German music publishers Dr J. Butz:

"Organ-isms: Anecdotes from the World of the King of Instruments" (2009)

"Dem Himmel Nahe" (Looking Up at Pipe Organs and Ceilings) (2015)

and in 2017, "Organs and Organists: Their Inside Stories". Her most recent book is called "Enigmatic Variations - Puzzles for Musicians", released in 2020.

When she is not on tour with international concert organist husband Martin, she wrestles with the garden and their Burmese cat and knits or crochets enough woolies to keep her warm while hanging out in cold cathedrals.
