Tobias Plieninger is Associate Professor in Countryside Planning at the University of Copenhagen. He was previously head of the Ecosystem Services Research Group at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and research fellow at the Geography Department of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He holds a degree in forestry and a PhD in forest and environmental sciences from the University of Göttingen and the University of Freiburg. He is interested in the study of the driving forces, processes, and patterns of changes in human-shaped landscapes. His research integrates natural and social science approaches to landscape ecology and conservation, including conservation biology, vegetation ecology, and regional development. Key topics are ecosystem services, cultural landscape, and social-ecological resilience. Currently his research focuses on two European projects on "Sustainable futures for Europe's heritage in cultural landscapes (HERCULES)" and "Agroforestry that will forward rural development (AGFORWARD)".
