B. S. Daya Sagar

B. S. Daya Sagar received the BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from the Andhra University, Waltair, India, in 1987, 1991 and 1994 respectively. He is currently a Professor of Systems Science and Informatics Unit (SSIU), Indian Statistical Institute--Bangalore Centre, India. Dr. Sagar was the first Head of SSIU. During 1992-2007, he worked at Andhra University, CRISP-National University of Singapore, and Multimedia University-Malaysia in various research and academic positions. His research interests include mathematical morphology, GISci, fractals and multifractals their applications in retrieval, analyses, reasoning, and modeling and visualization of terrestrial phenomena and processes. He has published over 80 papers in refereed journals, and has authored and/or edited 9 books including his recent book on Mathematical Morphology in Geomorphology and GISci (CRC Press: Boca Raton, p. 546, 2013). He is an elected Fellow of Royal Geographical Society (1999), and Indian Geophysical Union (2011). He received Dr. Balakrishna Memorial Award-1995 from Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, Krishnan Gold Medal-2002 from Indian Geophysical Union, and Georges Matheron Lectureship Award-2011 of International Association for Mathematical Geosciences. He founded the Bangalore Section IEEE GRSS Chapter in 2012. He is on Editorial Boards of Computers & Geosciences, Image Analysis and Stereology, and Frontiers: Environmental Informatics.
