Lee E. Cart

Lee E. Cart is an award-winning author, screenwriter, editor, and publisher of Ek’ Balam Press. Her first novel, Born in the Wayeb, was recognized in the 2015 International Latino Book Awards, and Rise of the Jaguar Woman: Book Two of The Mayan Chronicles received Second Place for Best Young Adult Latino Focused Book in the 2017 International Latino Book Awards.

Lee lived in Guadalajara, Mexico, for more than seven years as a child, an experience that fostered a deep love for the Mexican people, history, and cultures and later inspired her fascination with Maya history and mythology.

She is the author of The Mayan Chronicles as well as books on writing, nature, cooking, and other subjects. She also writes for the screen, including the science-fiction thriller Dry Land.

Lee lives in rural Maine, where she writes, gardens, photographs the natural world, and pursues an ever-growing collection of creative projects. When she is not writing, she can often be found curled up someplace snug with a good novel, a cup of hot tea, and a piece of very dark chocolate.
