SIG SWANSTROM has wide-ranging experience with violent crime, disasters, social unrest, civil war, and emergency operations and preparedness. He has personally lived through and responded to active-shooter incidents and many natural and man-made calamities.
In addition to his law enforcement career in the Los Angeles area as a SWAT team operator where he had deadly force encounters with violent criminals, and his time overseas in Guatemala where he survived several years of a vicious civil war, SIG has also been on-scene at a number of natural disasters.
This includes two deadly earthquakes, helping with the evacuation efforts during major storms, and he was onsite immediately after the nuclear bomb-like volcanic eruption of Mount St. Helens. And, he was first on scene and provided aid after the crash of a commercial airliner in a densely populated urban area. As a result, the scope of his experience is unusually broad.
SIG has dedicated his life to helping people get prepared and ready to roll into any type of emergency situation. Whether it be an encounter with a violent criminal, civil unrest, a local or regional disaster, or an event that is life changing for a nation, SIG’s passion is to help people fearlessly get ready for that moment when life suddenly changes.
In addition to founding two firearm defense academies and authoring several books and many articles on the topics of firearms defense and emergency preparedness, SIG is also a popular speaker and regularly appears on national and international talk shows.

Practical Experience: SIG has personally experienced firearms from both ends of the barrel. He has been on the receiving end of firearm, rocket, and mortar attacks orchestrated by criminals, gangs, guerrillas, and insurgents. Plus, he has had the opportunity to probe many criminal cases in which firearms were used against innocent people, and he has also investigated and researched incidents where law abiding citizens have fought back against their attackers. He knows this subject, and he knows how to communicate it.
Recognition: During SIG's law enforcement career he was named 'Police Officer of the Year,' and was a 'Commendation for Valor' recipient. In addition, he received the Mayor's Commendation, U.S. Attorney General's Commendation (Ed Meese), and numerous other awards and citations.
SIG was the personal bodyguard of Ronald Reagan before he became president of the United States. This was during the period after Reagan was governor of California, but before he announced his candidacy for president. After Reagan was elected president, SIG was part of his protection detail whenever the president traveled to Southern California.
Current: SIG is the founder and operator of two nationally recognized firearm training facilities. Texas Republic Firearms Academy (www.TXRFA.org), a firearm self-defense school serving civilians, and Camp Barkeley Tactical Training Center (www.CampBarkeleyTactical.com), which provides advanced training for SWAT teams and qualified civilians.
At Camp Barkeley, also offered are various Readiness University preparedness workshops, and classes in emergency-situation medical care. Medical classes include tactical-medic (Tac-Med) training, disaster first aid, training for missionaries and international aid workers, and when-there-is-no-hospital emergency medical care. Variations of these include workshops designed for professionals as well as classes for civilians.
