Leonardo Lospennato

Born in Argentina to a technician and an artist, Leo's lifelong passion for merging technology and art led him to a profession that harmoniously combines both—Lutherie.

At the age of 16, Leo crafted his first electric bass, marking the inception of a career that has spanned four decades. During those early years, there were no books, no Internet resources, and no lutherie schools around. However, by the turn of the century, he had immigrated to Italy and acquired enough expertise to share his knowledge with others. In the realm of electric guitar building, two books stand as seminal; Leo is the author of one of those books—and the other as well.

Leo published Sustain Magazine, a collaborative effort with renowned luthiers from Europe and America. His influence extended to numerous lutherie enthusiasts, some of whom would later become professional builders, who first learned the art of designing and crafting guitars through Leo's courses, publications, and books. Such is the beauty of knowledge: you can both keep it and pass it on.

Berlin, Germany, is the vibrant city where he lives and works today, always thinking about the next piece, one that will subvert expectations, doing its best to transcend the rank of a musical instrument to reach the heights of an artwork.
