Sam Abshier

Sam Abshier was born in Indiana and graduated with honors in Philosophy from Indiana State University, Evansville. After serving seven years in the United States Army, he held a securities license working as an investment advisor in both the United States and Europe. During the "cold war", he was the assistant director of the Battle Simulations Center where he familiarized incoming officers and senior ranking noncommissioned officers in the defense strategy of Berlin should the cold war escalate. Afterwards he served at the United States Embassy Berlin West. As Personnel Supervisor, he was responsible for all the American employees and assisted in the Berlin "drawdown' when the Soviet Union's economy collapsed relinquishing control of East Berlin, thus ending the presence of the Berlin Wall that separated East and West Berlin. During his last four years in Berlin, he served as Quality Assurance Supervisor at the Berlin Document Center. In that capacity, he assisted in the preparation and archiving of captured WWII military documents for their introduction into the German and American National Archives. The archives are presently available to the public for research purposes. While in Berlin, he taught evening classes through Central Texas College in personal finance, financial management and business law. After leaving Berlin, he returned to the United States to begin his writing career.
