ABOUT THE AUTHOR

John McLaughlin retired after a thirty year career in law enforcement with the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land Management. His career occurred primarily in the Southwest where he became an experienced Law Enforcement Ranger, Firearms Instructor, Farrier, and Animal Packer. During wildland fire season, he currently works on National Incident Management Teams assisting to suppress large wildfires.

John and his wife of thirty-nine years share time living in Peoria, Arizona and on their property located south of Silver City, New Mexico. He has a long standing love of reading books of all genres. However, he takes a special interest in both historical and fictional accounts of the Old West.

McLaughlin, winner of the 2012 Stirrup Award with Western Writers of America and the 2011 Independent Publisher Book Awards, has penned two historical novels (Our Time in the Sun, Red Sky at Morning) about the old Arizona Rangers of territorial days (1901-09) and a comtemporary western (In the Shadow of the Mountain) about a Vietnam veteran hoping to find peace in New Mexico's Gila Wilderness but instead winds up neck deep in violence, murder, and deceit.
