After taking a therapeutic writing class two years ago, I realized the healing benefits of writing. I write primarily poetry and occasionally short non-fiction. I am a graduate of Iowa State University. I became physically disabled due to an accident in 2004, and also have Major Depressive Disorder. Writing has helped me work through these as well as providing immense enjoyment. I am involved in a weekly writing group for persons with mental illness. I write daily, feeling the day incomplete if I don't. I find that having my work peer-reviewed has been instrumental in learning the art of poetry.
