Humphrey Evans

Humphrey Evans has taught courses on subediting, writing and freelance journalism for bodies such as the London College of Communication, which is part of the University of the Arts London, the commercial media trainers PMA and the National Union of Journalists. He has taught on the NUJ's very successful Getting Started as a Freelance day course from its inception.

Humphrey Evans has himself been a freelance journalist for some 40 years, writing for publications that range from the Guardian to Cat World, moving from office to office as a freelance subeditor and undertaking editorial responsibilities that have involved commissioning other freelance writers.

Humphrey Evans has researched pubs on the Isle of Man (for the Observer colour magazine), interviewed Tony Blair (for a trade union magazine), laid his hands on a BBC credit card to pay for a trip to write about a zoo in Holland (for the Radio Times), commissioned writers and photographers to track down and interview specific types of people (for a bank's magazine aimed at students) and generally done the kind of things that go to make up a freelance journalist's existence.

In January 2013, Humphrey Evans has been booked to be a tutor on a couple of day-long courses for freelance journalists.
