I have lived in the Pacific Northwest for 40+ years but my roots are in New England. I was born in Massachusetts and spent my elementary school years living and playing in the back woods of New Hampshire. Blessed with good fortune and very hard working parents, I was able to attend some of the best schools in New England and was the first person in my family to obtain college and graduate degrees.
It was not long after starting high school that I decided to become a child psychologist. I enjoyed children and was fascinated by the influence of the mind on human behavior. While still in college, I worked for three years at a hospital for emotionally disturbed children. After college I continued on to get a PhD degree in clinical child psychology and, subsequently, a post graduate degree in medical psychology. My first job was at a pediatric hospital in Seattle and it was there that I first learned about encopresis and the misery of families struggling with this condition.
I have learned a lot about childhood constipation since then and have found that helping these families is clinically very challenging but personally very rewarding.
