My life has given me a richness of worldly experience from which I hope I have managed to create credible and exciting adventures. From the old days of general cargo ships plying the Far Eastern ports to the more recent experiences in the offshore oil industry;drilling wells two kilometres beneath the sea or carving up the jungle I have drawn on characters I have known, places I have visited and attitudes prevailing at the time. The drama is in the characters and their interaction.

My starting point has been a belief that books should excite all the senses. Ever since I can remember I have read books on two levels simultaneously: At the first level I enjoy being taken in by the narrative and the characters while at the same time I am conscious of part of my mind analysing the structure and purpose of the book. Perhaps it is like an engineer driving a particularly fine vehicle and at the same time thinking of the drive train, the suspension system and the turbocharger. In the same way characters must be complete; they will have ulterior motivation, sensual needs and ambitions, compassion, love, hate and aggression.
