John S. Davis

I currently serve as Senior Associate Dean and Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder where I have taught for the past 21 years. I've enjoyed an active career as a clinician, performer and guest conductor throughout the United States and Canada. While serving as director of the Thompson Jazz Studies Program (1999-2012) the program was awarded 16 Down Beat magazine Student Music Awards and was recognized by the university chancellor as one of the university's “core programs of excellence.” Prior to my appointment at CU, I served as Assistant Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, where I was also Festival Coordinator for the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival, the largest non-competitive jazz festival in the United States. My education includes a BA in Music Education and Performance, a MA in Trumpet Performance, a MS in Organizational Leadership, and a Doctor of Arts degree in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy with a secondary emphasis in Jazz Studies.
