Poet, Cali Linfor was born in Garden Grove, California in the 1970s. She grew up mainly in Riverside, California. Reading and writing were a struggle for her as a child being both dyslexic and having been born with no opposable thumbs. But, convinced of the power of words, she eventually received a BA from UCLA in English while studying under Paula Gunn Allen and graduated with highest honors. She also has an MFA in Poetry. She lives happily near the banks of the San Diego River and the rolling hills of Mission Trails Regional Park with her family and lectures in Rhetoric and Writing at San Diego State University where her scholarly work focuses on issues of educational equity. She was an editor for Epicenter Literary Magazine for sixteen years.
A Book of Ugly Things in Lantern Tree: Four Books of Poems by City Works Press is her first published collection of poetry although her work has been featured in numerous publications.
Lantern Tree has been nominated for San Diego Book Awards Best Poetry Anthology 2013.
