David Nelson
I am the Cowboy Poet Laureate of Tennessee. This honor was given to me by the Governor and General Assembly. For nearly twenty years I have traveled America performing my poetry and yarns (lies) on stage. You can now purchase my works and share them around the campfire or at the dinner table. My off-brand form of storytelling is best known as "Where a Little Bull Goes a Long Way". In this book you will learn some history of famous western folks, you will gain insight into some beliefs of our Native People, you will laugh, think, and ponder about an array of topics. I hope you enjoy my work and tell others about it. If you do not enjoy it, remember 'mum is the word'.
I am a survivor of childhood physical and emotional abuse from alcoholic parents and a mentally ill mother. My book, "The Shade Tree Choir" will take you behind the secret walls of my childhood home. You will be there for beatings with belts, sticks and kicks from work boots was occurred regularly. I will lead you into the blackest spot in our 100 year old house. It was behind a cellar wall that I was imprisoned for nearly a full day with no food, water or bathroom privileges. You will learn of the promise I made to myself at age eight years of age. And you will be there the day I discovered a hidden family secret.
My memoir books are titled "PALS: Part One" and "PALS:Part Two." You will meet my friends who helped me escape a dysfunctional home. You will see how an abused child can react against society. In the long run, you will see there is indeed success after abuse. All of my books are filled with humor and naturally the dark side of life. I used humor as a kid and as an adult to combat my depression and anxiety disorders.
