Cameron Scott, my protagonist, shares my background as a park ranger and attorney, but far exceeds my level of ambition and daring. His wife, Mary, more closely resembles my own wife in energy and spirit.

A rich variety of events led to my writing career: I penned skits and told ghost stories at summer camp; learned from excellent high school English teachers; started reading voraciously as a teen; played a variety of lead roles in community plays and musicals; and encountered countless human personalities in my law and outdoor careers.

Of course, as an erstwhile attorney, I wrote for a living, but fiction writing presents its own special challenges. (I know, I know, you're wondering, "What's the difference?")

In addition to the novels shown here, I've penned "Radio Play," a stage comedy, "Winter Nightsong," a musical adaptation of Dickens' Christmas Carol, and two radio dramas titled "The Thirteen Fraternity Brothers" and "Teache's Revenge," all of which hit the stage in my community. The North Carolina State Bar Journal published my short story, "The Great Grayson County Third of July Picnic and Softball Extravaganza" as 2007 third place winner in its annual short story competition.

"Half A Teaspoon" comes next in the Cameron Scott series. People often ask why I've done the countdown in my titles, and the only answer I can give is that it just happened that way. The hurricane threat and membership categories of the domestic terror group in the first book suggested the name "The Fifth Category." In the second book, probate estates and land estates led to the title "The Fourth Estate." And so it went.

Right now, I'm looking for an agent/publisher for my literary fiction, "Scratch," in which the Devil needs to save a soul. A few other projects are under development as well.
