David Jeremy Jones

my writing is inspired by the works of thomas paine; my life is influenced by the humour and inspiration of vin garbutt - in fact I try to live my life by their example.

David Jeremy Jones was born in Essex in 1956. He moved from Essex to Bristol, in 1961. In 1971 the family moved again, this time to Middlesbrough on Teesside. David spent his formative years in Middlesbrough and still has a place in his heart for the town and the nearby North York Moors. He is still a Boro fan!

In 1976 he joined the Army - serving first as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers in Northern Ireland (Crossmaglen), Australia and Perham Down in Hampshire. Then in 1980, he transferred to the Royal Army Medical Corps, where he trained to become a Biomedical Scientist. His training took place at the Royal Army Medical College in Millbank, London after which he was posted to Woolwich (Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital - now part of Greenwich Hospitals NHS Trust). His first son, Steven, was born in Greenwich in 1982. After four years of further training, including another 6 months at Millbank, he was posted to Iserlohn in West Germany as a State Registered BMS. His first daughter, Laura, was born in Iserlohn in 1985. After Iserlohn, in 1986, he was posted to Rinteln, also in West Germany. Whilst in Rinteln he was sent on a 4 month detachment to the Falkland Islands (1986), missed the World Cup in Argentina, hand-of-god etc. the explosion at Chernobyl and the marriage of Andrew and Fergie (be thankful for small mercies).

After Rinteln he was posted back to England, Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot, and did an FIBMS (MSc degree) in Microbiology, passing in 1988 and becoming a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. After that, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, posted to Hong Kong and served as Chief Technician at BMH in Kowloon.

He left the army in 1992 and got a job as a Senior BMS at the Public Health Laboratory in Guildford, Surrey. He was divorced from his first wife, Valerie in 1992 and married again, to Linda in 1994. With Linda, he had 3 more children - Barnaby (1994), Matthew (1996) and Tammy (1999). In 2011 David and Linda divorced. David is now married to Anja (2018) and they live in Hemel Hempstead with their miniature schnauzer, Professor Scamp.

He started writing about 15 years ago and has produced seven novels. There is a lot of his experience, angst and disappointment in his writing, but also a lot of his wicked humour and wit.
