Maritza M. Mejía’s writing journey began with a desire to share her faith testimony with her descendants and preserve the story of their ancestral roots in Colombia. What began as a personal legacy for future generations gradually grew into a lifelong passion for writing, poetry, bilingual literature, and storytelling.
Through her books, Maritza celebrates gratitude, tolerance, faith, cultural heritage, and care for the environment. She especially enjoys connecting with young readers through interactive read-alouds and literary events that inspire curiosity, imagination, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them.
In recognition of her service to the community, Maritza received the Crystal Apple Award (2006). Her literary work has also been honored with the Virtues Christian Poetry Award (2015) and the International Latino Book Award for Best Translation from English to Spanish (2016) for her memoir Hazel Eyes. She is the author of twelve books, including bilingual and Spanish-language works.
Maritza continues to research and study. She earned a degree in Commerce and Foreign Languages from Colegio Universidad Mayor de Cundinamarca in Colombia, an Associate degree in Travel Industry Management, a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, and a Certificate in Women’s Studies from Florida Atlantic University. She also holds a Master’s degree in Theology and Educational Ministry from Catholic International University, formerly Catholic Distance University.
Her professional experience includes translation, course development for continuing education, and student life services. She currently serves as a Student Life Manager for Spanish Programs, translator, and course developer for continuing education programs.
Maritza writes to inspire others to become better human beings.
