Jim Byrne

My name is Jim Byrne, and I am a Doctor of Counselling from the University of Manchester, UK. My MA was in Education, and I completed a post-MA Diploma in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy. I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist, in private practice, in Hebden Bridge, and via the telephone, for more than twenty years (as at November 2018).

I have always loved writing, and I have published at least 15 books (as at 3rd July 2019) which are of interest to self-help enthusiasts (who like to work on their emotional well-being, their relationships, and the quality of their lives); as well as being helpful for counselors, psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, and others. Those books are on: lifestyle counselling; healing traumatic memories; holistic counselling; managing anger, anxiety and depression; and a critique of rational emotive behaviour therapy. I have also written about: stress management; writing therapy; models of mind; my autobiographical novel; and a general introduction to the theory and practice of Emotive-Cognitive Embodied Narrative Therapy (E-CENT).

E-CENT is my own creation - a fusion of several pre-existing therapies, including Transactional Analysis, Affect Regulation theory, Attachment theory, Narrative therapy, Moral philosophy, some moderate Zen Buddhist ideas, moderate Stoicism, neuroscience and Interpersonal Neurobiolgy; and some other elements.

What I like most about writing is the challenge of making my writing as comfortable and enjoyable and informative as possible for my readers. Clarity of communication, enjoyability, and usefulness of the book are my main aims. Of course, valuable content goes without saying!
