Matthew LeRiche has been working in South Sudan and the region, including Kenya, Central African Republic, and the DRC for approximately 8 years. His doctorate studied the then rebel Sudanese People’s Liberation Army/Movement and how international humanitarian action impacted the conduct of the civil war.
He is a graduate of the Department of War Studies, King’s College London (PhD and Masters), as well as Memorial University of Newfoundland (BA). He is from the island of Newfoundland in Canada on the edge of North America.
Matthew has worked for insurance companies, risk management firms, private security firms and private intelligence/due diligence firms, largely based in the City in London, UK. His focus has been primarily on East and Central Africa but he also has a focus and interest in Central Asia.
Along with focusing on development, humanitarianism and civil war Dr. LeRiche also engages in emergency planning work, most recently concluding the emergency plan for the Port of St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Matthew also co-founded EpicDemic Productions a film and media company focused on documentary work and public relations advice. His first major feature length film South Sudan: The World’s Youngest Nation, with Director Viktor Pesenti is in the Africa World Film Festival and will be aired on satellite in 2012.
He is currently a Fellow in Managing Humanitarianism at the London School of Economics and Political Science, along with an Adviser to various other firms, governments and projects on South Sudan and risk in Africa
