Helena Halme

I write Nordic love stories set against the breathtaking landscapes of Finland, from the Baltic islands to the Northern Lights of Lapland.

Originally from Finland and now living in London, my stories are always drawn back to the Nordic world I grew up in. They explore love, family, and second chances, often unfolding in unforgettable settings — from the windswept islands of the Baltic Sea to the snowy wilderness of Finnish Lapland.

My books include the Love on the Island series set in the Åland Islands and The Anderssons, a sweeping Lapland family saga filled with secrets, romance, and the glow of the Northern Lights. The earlier Nordic Heart novels were inspired by my own real-life romance with a British naval officer I met at a British Embassy reception in Helsinki.

Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as a BBC journalist, magazine editor, and bookseller, and later completed an MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University.

When I’m not writing, I love spending time with my family — especially my granddaughter — and going to the theatre in London, where I’m particularly fond of Nordic playwrights like Ibsen and Strindberg. I also have a lifelong fascination with public transport and will happily jump on a London red double-decker bus just for the view from the top deck.

If you enjoy atmospheric Nordic settings, emotional love stories, and family sagas, you’ll feel right at home in my books.
