Christopher Noessel

Christopher Noessel has shaped interaction design for over thirty years. He directed information design at marchFIRST, prototyped future technologies for Microsoft, and became the first Design Fellow at Cooper. At IBM as Design Principal he ran the worldwide Design for AI guild and developed AI training for designers. Publications include Make It So: Interaction Design Lessons from Science Fiction (Rosenfeld Media 2012, with Nathan Shedroff), the 4th edition of About Face: The Essentials of Interaction Design (Wiley 2014), Pair Design (OReilly 2016, with Gretchen Anderson), Designing Agentive Technology: AI That Works for People (Rosenfeld Media 2017). He maintains the blog scifiinterfaces. He has published two short fiction stories. His most recent book, Designing Assistant Technology: AI That Makes People Smarter (Rosenfeld Media 2026), helps designers understand the opportunities and mitigate the risks of AI assistants.
