Debashis dey

Debashis Dey is an Indian poet, author, and former media executive whose journey from Mumbai’s television studios to a remote Himalayan village mirrors the quiet intensity of his writing. Born in Calcutta, he spent over two decades in high-powered corporate roles in media and television before walking away from it all—selling his home, giving away his possessions, and choosing instead a life of solitude among tribal nomads in the Himalayas.

His writing—poetry, short stories, and essays—reflects a deep reverence for silence, nature, memory, and the unseen emotional threads that shape our lives. His debut novel, Murmur of the Lonely Brook, draws from his immersion into an ancient culture that still lives by age-old customs and traditions. Proceeds from the novel support a grassroots women’s health initiative in the region.

The Edge of Listening, his first poetry collection, is a lyrical meditation on stillness, longing, and inner transformation. Debashis now lives in Kolkata with his wife and six cats, writing from a place where words arrive gently—like leaves on water, like memory through mist.
