Welcome to my page! I am the author of BRIGHT LIGHTS, DARK PLACES and a motivational speaker. I served as a police officer for 21 years on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. My career began in 1980 where I was the first female officer hired under the same standards as the men. I moved up the ranks and was promoted to Sergeant and later Lieutenant. I paved the way for other female officers and became the first woman sergeant on the academy staff, pioneered a new bicycle patrol on the Las Vegas Strip and started a Missing Person's Detail in the detective bureau. In 1997 I tested for Captain as was ranked #1.
My career-related activities included: Coordinator, Take Your Daughter's to Work Day; Co-chair, Leadership Las Vegas Youth Criminal Justice Day; and Dale Carnegie Instructor. Memberships and affiliations include: Women's Chamber of Commerce of Nevada; Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Leadership Las Vegas Alumni Association; and International Association of Women Police. In 1995 I was honored as a finalist in the legal category for Women of Achievement and won the award in 1997. I was recognized as one of the Distinquished Women in Southern Nevada in 1997.
