Martine Callaghan

After a successful career teaching modern languages, I decided to pursue a new path and enrolled in a certified course in silversmithing. This marked the beginning of my career in jewellery making, where I specialized in the intricate art of wirework. My passion for the craft quickly grew, and in 2009, I was honoured to be awarded the title of "Jewellery Maker of the Year in Wirework" by Beads & Beyond magazine. As part of the prize , they offered me the job of writing a monthly five-page article featuring five unique wirework-making projects for readers. I worked with Beads & Beyond for three years, honing my skills and sharing my expertise.

Recognizing the quality of my work, the American publisher Kalmach Books approached me to write Making Wire Jewelry, a book tailored to wirework beginners in the jewelry-making world. Part of their "The Absolute Beginner's Guide" series, the book was published in 2012 and later republished three times, further cementing my reputation in the industry.

Throughout my career, I have always been passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge. I have developed a deep understanding of close-up photography, mastering the art of creating clear, sharp, and relevant step-by-step images to accompany my instructions. With a Master's Degree in Education, I have extensive experience in teaching and have always been dedicated to passing on my skills to others.

After a period of stepping away from my professional life to care for my sick husband, I am now excited to relaunch my career in jewellery writing. My passion for creating and teaching continues to drive me, and I look forward to inspiring and guiding a new generation of jewelry makers.

I live in Scotland in the fabulous city of Edinburgh.
