John F. McGrady

Originally I had thought myself to be one of the few to actually sail to the South Pacific on a small boat and NOT write about it, but the stories just kept coming out of my mouth so many times for so many people that I eventually wrote them down. The voyage itself resulted in living my life somewhat backwards rather than forward, having done the fantastic adventure at such an early time in my adult life.

I had always travelled throughout my life and this was no exception. In the short haul, it was a fantastic experience for supporting family, both children and parents. Relating the experience in prose I tried, with purpose, to tell the tale such that it would be a pleasure to read far into the future. Much to my surprise, by the way, I did not expect "cruising" to taper off as it has compared to the 80s. The voyage was indeed the BEST years of my life.

"Sailing the Dream" is my original title, by the way, and even though you see others use it, don't confuse this "Sailing the Dream" with another young man's tale that didn't even happen until August of 2009. One wonders why people donʻt respect a title (© 1996-2013)? While it may not be illegal to "borrow" a title, it's shady at best, especially when both tales are of sailing across big oceans.

I have written over 35 other publications, albeit most are software, in a language such as C, Basic, Smart Talk, Xcode, etc., as a programmer of course; but also as a writer. I can say this: To me, English is a harder language than any programming language to do correctly.

I also like computer aided design, including typeface design. I thrive on creativity, and am in pain without it.

I learned to SCUBA dive at age 14 and this began a long love affair with the ocean which has been a dominant theme in my life, as has been my persistent love of nature and science.

Polynesian culture; the mystery and the people are in my blood. I've always loved palm trees; and as long as I can see one, hope springs eternal.

"Sailing the Dream" amazes me in that it still sells well, fourteen years later. It is available in nearly 50 countries as Paperback, iBook ePub, and, recently, Kindle ePub as well. It has had two printings and 4 editions.

For those of you that enjoy it, thank you so much!
