Current Anthropology Volume 22, Number 6 complete issue. First edition. Harris's cultural materialistic strategy of research must be more explicit in recognizing that it deals with nonlinear events that are constantly modified by natural-selective processes. These processes require a different kind of explanation, called here "selection explanation." Moreover, the tripartite notion of infrastructure/structure/superstructure and the mental/behavioral, emic/etic, and culture/nature dichotomies do not allow unambiguous classification of elements pertaining to the various categories. Different criteria based on conformance with laws of energy are proposed. Condition: Spine heal bumped and rubbed, corners gently bumped, rubbed and creased else very good.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good-. The author believes that Guatemala, as a small nation within the general domain of the United States, is caught in that developmental hinterland of that powerful neighbor and that the United States, within its own capitalistic development pattern and in competition with other leading world powers, cannot allow the smaller nation to resolve its own political and social problems. Thus Guatemala, he declares, finds itself crucified by unyielding and uncontrollable power plays beyond its national borders. Red boards with black spine label on gold-colored lettering, 553 pp., illustrated with charts and maps and including a detailed fold-out map of Guatemala. Minimal wear, nice and clean throughout, tight binding. An otherwise nice jacket is slightly flawed by a small tear, mended on the inside spine panel with clear tape.
