James H. Cox

James H. Cox is a Professor of English and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author of Muting White Noise: Native American and European American Novel Traditions (2006) and The Red Land to the South: American Indian Writers and Indigenous Mexico (2012). He co-edited The Oxford Handbook of Indigenous American Literature with Daniel Heath Justice. The book won the 2017 Modern Language Association Prize for Studies in Native American Literatures, Cultures, and Languages. His third book, The Political Arrays of American Indian Literary History, will appear in 2019 from the University of Minnesota Press. Cox is the co-founder of Native American and Indigenous Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and the former co-editor, with Daniel Heath Justice, of Studies in American Indian Literatures.
