Michael Goodell

I have been writing my whole life, in a variety of genres, including fiction, travel narratives, the occasional review, and general political essays. The work on which I have spent the most time is fiction. It is through that medium I prefer to observe and interpret the world around me.

Until recently, that is. Actually, it is the best (or worst) part of a decade that I have devoted to sharing, and documenting my wife Mary Northcutt's battle with cancer. The experience was uplifting, celebratory, a time of love and adventure, making new friends and rediscovering old ones, until it wasn't. She put it off for the longest time, but when the end came, it came suddenly. And with the end came a deep desire to tell her story, through her eyes and my words. The result of that is a memoir, THE WORLD SHIFTED. A work of love and commemoration, I have decided to donate $1 for every copy sold to cancer research. I will write again, and am currently wandering around in two separate worlds, one a tale of one man's life gone astray and the people who loved, defended, and fought with and for him. The other is a sequel to REBOUND, in which my detective solves a murder in Northern Michigan's wine country.

I have lived in Michigan for nearly four decades, and that experience has shared and colored my fiction. I was married to the same woman for 34 years, and we raised two children. They are currently working with me in pursuit of the dream of starting a family business, a winery called Amoritas Vineyards on Northern Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula.
