Ellen Roberge

I have written two books, "SNAFU, A Hysterical Memoir About Why the Government Doesn't Work" and "Alligators Don't Know They're Monsters," an entirely different kind of memoir about what it's like to grow up in a world that still doesn't understand mental illness unless you live with it like my mother did. I've also written a short story as Kindle eBooks, The Gigolo.

I was born and raised in Florida; however, I worked as a Federal civil servant in Georgia, Hawaii, Virginia and Florida before retiring in 2003 after 28 years of civil service. The best decision I made in life was to go to work for the Government and the second-best decision I made was to retire. Some reviews of SNAFU were critical, saying if I didn't like my career, I should've quit. I'm not a quitter; I wanted to see if I could make some positive change in the way things were done. Sadly, I may have won a few battles but lost the war. Others said I shouldn’t have aired the dirty laundry of my place of employment. Each time another unbelievable event occurred, I decided to start writing them down, as my cathartic way of dealing with all of it. In 2011, I compiled them all into my first book, “SNAFU, A Hysterical Memoir About Why the Government Doesn’t Work.” You only have to look to the 2020 and 2024 Presidential Races to see that our government is more dysfunctional than ever.
