T. L. Criswell

Author and Poet, T. L. Criswell’s creative writing style gives life to her belief that what you put out into the universe determines your destiny. With an inspired desire for self-expression, Mrs. Criswell’s authenticity is shown through her witty and humorous tone. With her ability to write reality-based themes, such as personal responsibility, bad choices, and redemption, she manages to capture the struggles of everyday people. Her debut novel “The Peacemaker” was inspired by her poem “Stolen Opportunities (2012), “Peace On That: The Peacemaker ll” (2015), and “Shortcuts: Choices and Consequences” (2018), has reached and touched the lives of so many.

Mrs. Criswell is a spiritual person, as well as a freethinker who finds her inspiration for writing through her efforts in making a difference in local communities and schools. In 2018, the Detroit public library discovered the message in "The Peacemaker" and purchased copies for DPS students. Mrs. Criswell was honored to headline their two-day annual author celebration, where she conducted motivational speeches, answered questions, and signed books. “My favorite part of writing is the ability to connect with the children. I wanted to write something fun, entertaining as well as thought-provoking. The goal is to reach, teach, and not preach,” expressed Mrs. Criswell.

Mrs. Criswell also understands that “no man is an Island.” She gives much credit to her co-worker and Mentor Ben Smith for helping her to find her literary voice. His constant motivation and positive attitude have helped her achieve her life-long goals.

Other works include two short stories and several essays, and opinion-editorial pieces.

A native of Inkster, Michigan, Criswell is also an Army veteran, and a UAW member who has worked in manufacturing for over thirty years. She enjoys the support of her loving husband and son, where they currently reside in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
