STANFORD ERICKSON is a forty-nine year member of the National Press Club in Washington, DC, and a former member of the Overseas Press Club in New York City. For more than twenty-five years, as a Bureau Chief in Washington, DC, and a reporter and editor-in-chief in New York City, he covered Presidents, Congress, Administrative and Regulatory Departments and Agencies. He interviewed Presidents and other world leaders and many significant business leaders in the country.
As a JOURNALIST, he worked for Hearst, McGraw-Hill, Knight-Ridder and The Economist Group. As a journalist he worked in San Francisco, Korea, Chicago, New York, Washington, DC and Philadelphia.
He was the SPEECHWRITER for President of the American Bankers Association and for the President of the American Railroad Association and then for 10 years headed up all public relations activities worldwide for Sea-Land Service, the world’s largest containership operator. Having made enough money to send his sons through college, Erickson returned to his first love newspapers and magazines.
Erickson was Editorial Director, EDITOR-IN CHIEF and then General Manager of Knight-Ridder’s The Journal of Commerce in New York City. At the time, The Journal of Commerce had the largest news bureau in Washington, DC, of all Knight-Ridder newspapers. When The Economist Group bought The Journal of Commerce, he was made President and Publisher of the magazine division and bought magazines for The Economist Group. He then struck out on his own and, with investors, bought The Farm Journal Media Company, servicing as CEO and Chairman.
His full-length play, The Kennedys: An American Tragedy, first begun in the 1980s, had a live reading by professional actors before an audience in Seattle, Washington, in 2010. A two-act play Five Actors in Search of a Director was scheduled for production in Florida in 2020 until the pandemic occurred. He also has written the full-length play Brave Nor Strong, about a time when he served in the U. S. Army.
In 2011 Erickson published a non-fiction book, How to Be Wiser Than Solomon.
In 2012 Erickson published the non-fiction book Mama’s Boy Presidents: Why Do We Keep Electing Them
In 2016 Erickson published the non-fiction book What Kind of Women Can Be U.S. President?
In 2019 The Psalms from a Christian Perspective was published. Written by Rev. Dr. George L. Earnshaw, Stanford Erickson edited the book. The editing took four years, since Dr. Earnshaw was deceased and had a few different commentaries on the 150 psalms.
In 2020 Erickson published the non-fiction book Ranking U.S. Presidents from Washington to Trump.
In 2022 Erickson co-authored The Door, a novel with Richard Kerr, former Deputy Director of the CIA.
In 2026 Erickson co-authored Murder for Dummies, a second novel with Richard Kerr, former Deputy Director of the CIA.
Throughout his career he has written poetry and will publish a book of poetry in 2026
Erickson received his undergraduate degree in Literature from University of California, Berkeley, a Masters of Arts degree in Literature from Francisco State University and a Masters in Business from Columbia University. He is a U. S. Army veteran having reported for Stars & Stripes.
