Don Childrey

Don Childrey grew up in central North Carolina and still lives there, though he enjoys hiking and biking on trails anywhere he can find them.

After earning a Civil Engineering degree at North Carolina State University and a Professional Engineer’s license, he worked for the NC Department of Transportation and later for the NC Office of the State Controller.

His first book, Uwharrie Lakes Region Trail Guide, was published in 1998 by Earthbound Sports, Inc. This guide thoroughly covers the hiking, biking, equestrian, and OHV trails in the area. The Second Edition of Uwharrie Lakes Region Trail Guide was published in 2014.

In 2004, Don wrote a second book, Star Trails - Navajo, and self-published it through Createspace. This book is a field guide to the Navajo constellations and their star stories. A revised edition was published in 2009 and a Kindle version in 2014.

Don is currently working on a mountain bike guide and a greenway cycling guide, in between trips to travel around the country when he can!
