D. Manning Richards

Aries Books will publish D. Manning Richards’s third novel in June 2022 titled “Paris in Ruins: A Novel of Passion and the French Resistance,” the first book in Marguerite Charbonneau’s trilogy. A Parisian, she lives with a German colonel she loves during the occupation. When her first love seduces her to spy for the Resistance, she risks her life while choosing between the two men. The story is based on true events in their actual settings and inspired by the real men and women who courageously fought the battle to save Paris from ruin, following Hitler’s order to destroy the city.

The author and his wife Judith lived in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés quarter of Paris for four and a half years while researching and writing his Paris novel. They now live in Nice, France, where he is writing the second book in Marguerite’s trilogy tentatively titled “French Riviera Interlude.”

D. Manning Richards was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He holds a Master of City Planning degree and is an avid amateur historian. Before becoming a novelist, he was a real estate developer of office, residential, and hotel buildings in Washington, D.C. Curious about the world, he has traveled extensively and lived and worked in Sydney, Australia, three times for a total of nine years. But it was his interests in cities, history, and the writing of short stories and poetry that drew him back to Sydney to attend the 2000 Summer Olympics and to begin researching the history of the city, which resulted in two published historical family sagas: DESTINY IN SYDNEY: An epic novel of convicts, Aborigines, and Chinese embroiled in the birth of Sydney, Australia [1787–1902] and GIFT OF SYDNEY: An epic novel of the struggle to forge the multicultural, world-class city of Sydney, Australia [1903–1981].
