Alexander Lawrence

Alexander Lawrence was born in 1939 in Queens, New York City at the end of the Depression. His father worked as a “Super” of apartment houses, and the family moved frequently, especially around the borough of Brooklyn. Following graduation from college Lawrence worked on the streets of the City as a social worker. In his late 30s he entered seminary, and a few years later founded an independent church in Indiana, not unlike the churches depicted throughout his major work, THE GOINS BRICOLAGE. Employing humor and on occasion broad comedy, Alexander Lawrence uses the backdrop of small town Indiana to explore some of the moral and ethical conflicts of America, especially the Biblical conflict between God and Mammon, the Spirit and Greed. The GOINS BRICOLAGE,which was conceived and written as a single unit, consists of 4 volumes: BLEST BE THE TIE, 1ST VICTORY IN JESUS, 2ND VICTORY IN JESUS & HAVE THINE OWN WAY tracing the history of the Goins Family of Tecumseh and Stonewall Counties in the Hoosier State from the 1920s through the 1990s as they struggle to amass fortune and power while asserting the purity of their walk with Jesus .
