(Horror fiction writer) David Conway

David Conway was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1963. Brought up in the UK and Ireland, he was the recipient of an old-school Irish-Catholic education under the strict tutelage of Christian Brothers and Jesuit priests.

Responding poorly to the draconian pedagogy of Edmund Rice and Ignatius Loyola, Conway dropped out of school and worked for several years in Dublin where he became one of the founder members of -- and original vocalist with -- the alternative rock band My Bloody Valentine. As a member of the band, he relocated to Holland, West Berlin and finally London, performing extensively in Europe and the UK and collaborating in the writing and recording of the band's initial releases during the mid-to-late 1980s. Conway quit the band in 1987.

While working various day jobs, Conway dedicated his efforts to writing. His first published works appeared in the Creation Books anthologies "Red Stains" and "The Starry Wisdom -- A Tribute to HP Lovecraft". His first book, a collection of short stories in the SF/horror vein, entitled "Metal Sushi" was originally published by Oneiros Books in 1998 and was described by Grant Morrison, author of "Arkham Asylum", "The Invisibles" and "The Filth" as " -- the most powerful and distinctive writer of horror fiction since Clive Barker."

Conway has also worked in the field of comic books, writing "Vampirella" and "Pantha" for Harris Comics, "Vampi" for Anarchy Studios, "X-Men Unlimited" for Marvel Comics and contributing to "Decay" for Australian publishers Dark Oz. In addition to his published novels -- "Tokyo Gothic", "Death Disco", "Kinky Kabuki", "Algol Asylum", "The Pornographer's Tragedy" and "Celebrity Death Cult" -- his work has also appeared in Creation Books' "Songs of the Black Wurm Gism" and Paraphilia Magazine.

David Conway currently lives in London.
