I trusted in Jesus Christ as my Savior three years after graduating from the University of Oregon (class of 58) with a degree in business. Six months after I became a believer, I enrolled as a student at Western Conservative Baptist Theological Seminary (now Western Seminary).
After three years in seminary, in 1964 I joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (now CRU, and ministered on campuses from coast to coast. In 1972, I left CRU staff when I accepted a call to be the pastor of Grace Bible Church, a congregation with 27 members in Bryan, Texas. During my pastorate we moved it to twin-city College Station, a few blocks from Texas A&M University, where it grew and has prospered. (It now helps support almost 100 missionaries -- most are graduates of A&M).
In the summer before my third year in seminary I taught a college age class to help the students get a handle on the big picture of the Bible. This was the first of about forty times I taught a Bible study series, that was about eight sessions long. It got the best response of any series I taught from the pulpit during my pastorate. So after my pastorate, I taught it many time to groups in homes, to student groups on the Texas A&M campus, and for weekend retreats, while I ministered from the context of the business world. God blessed those Bible studies, and that lead to my writing The Master Plot of the Bible.
When friends asked if I was going to write another book, I replied, "It took me thirty years to write the first one, and I don't think I have another thirty ears." But I did come up with another book from many years of ministering to college students, as a pastor, and in the work a day business world. I named it, As You Are Going... Make Disciples. Taking from those book, I developed the three chapter eBook for use in evangelism, and had it translated into Spanish.
For many years I thought it was a mistake to self publish. But about six years after writing them, Amazon started publishing eBooks. In 2018. some missionaries read The Master Plot of the Bible, and two of their sending organizations asked for permission to translate it into several languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese, and some others) for use in training indigenous pastors in church plants. Since I owned all rights, I was able to give the missionaries royalty free permission. It also give me the right to let Amazon offer my eBooks as a loaners to its Prime Members.
