George M. Callaghan is an avid sailor and environmentalist and long-time resident of Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated from Kenyon College with a BA in English Literature and received his MA later from Northwestern University. After graduating, he began a career as a documentary and commercial filmmaker which won him many national awards. His feature film script, The Last Foxhunt, was honored by a Gold Medal at the Houston International Film Festival. Herons Poynte is his first novel and was written over a period of 18 years. Readers urged him to continue the story in a sequel which he did in Return of the Amerind, which took almost 5 years to write.
