Dave Kilbourne

Dave Kilbourne has been a U.S. Forest Service Lookout Tower Operator, a Forest Ranger, a Timber Cruiser and a Rattlesnake Wrangler. Prior to all that mischief he served a brief stint in the United States Marine Corps.

He was once a part-time School Psychologist. There is nothing more dangerous than a part-time psychologist. Many of his former student clients are still in intensive counseling as they attempt to overcome his professional care. The only activity he was allowed to engage in that might be considered more dangerous to students was when, as a high school sophomore he was granted a full-time school bus driver’s license at sixteen years of age. Sit down, buckle up and hang on!

A decade or so later, with a wife, he owned and operated the infamous Pyromania Tallow Works in lovely Downtown Chico, CA. This enterprise was a highly flammable candle factory and art gallery operated on the same basis as a Wild West rodeo show. Entire cities, such as Chicago, have burned flat to the ground with less cause than this outlaw candle making business provided during those halcyon days. Google “Great Chicago Fire” for additional details.

After that business was finally extinguished he served as Executive Director of the Downtown Chico Business Association for a dozen years and from that springboard began a highly successful urban planning and economic development consulting firm, Downtown Revitalization Consultants, which exists to this day. Have your downtown call for an appointment.

He is an occasional home brewer and has an affliction for strong hoppy ales, especially those brewed by Chico’s world famous Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, where he can often be found holding forth back by the pizza oven. He resides at Camp Kilbourne with his teenage daughter, Savannah A. Kilbourne, the finest daughter in all the land.
